Replacing Old Black Poly Irrigation Lines With PVC
If you’re constantly repairing irrigation leaks, the problem may be more than one broken fitting. Some older or lower-cost irrigation systems use black polyethylene tubing throughout large portions of the yard. As these systems age and develop multiple leaks, repeatedly digging up and patching individual sections can become frustrating and expensive.
When replacement makes sense, Bacson Landscaping can remove or abandon failing underground lines and rebuild the appropriate portions of the irrigation system using Schedule 40 PVC. We can install new underground lines, valves and manifolds, reconnect irrigation zones and replace or upgrade the controller when needed.
We don’t replace flexible tubing just for the sake of replacing it. Poly and drip tubing still make sense for final distribution near plants and emitters. Our goal is to use PVC for durable underground infrastructure where appropriate, while using flexible drip components where they work best.
New systems
New irrigation system installation
On a new build or a full landscape renovation, we install the whole system: point of connection, backflow prevention and shutoffs where applicable, Schedule 40 PVC main and laterals, valves and manifold, zoning, controller, and the drip distribution and emitters out at the plants.
Zoning is where a new system is won or lost. Turf, trees and desert-adapted plants want completely different amounts of water on completely different intervals — put them on one zone and something is always being over- or underwatered. We separate them from the start.
Drip
Drip irrigation repair & installation
Drip is the right delivery method for most of what grows here — trees, shrubs and desert plantings all do better with slow water at the root zone than with spray that mostly evaporates. We install and repair drip distribution, replace damaged tubing and emitters, sort out pressure problems, and extend systems to cover new plantings.
Emitters also aren’t one-size: a young tree and a small shrub on the same emitter means one of them is wrong. We size output to the plant.

Can you fix an irrigation system someone else installed?
In most cases, yes. We'll map your existing zones and valves first so any fix or upgrade works with what's already in the ground instead of tearing everything out.
Will a smart controller actually lower my water bill?
It typically reduces waste from overwatering and from schedules nobody updates for the season, which is where most of the water is lost, not from the fixtures themselves.
How do I know if I have a leak in my irrigation system?
The usual signs are a water bill that jumped with no change in habits, a wet or sunken spot that never dries out, a zone with noticeably weak pressure, or water still seeping long after a cycle ended. Underground line leaks often show at the surface well away from the actual break, which is why tracing it matters more than digging where it’s wet.
Should I repair my irrigation system or replace it?
Depends on what’s failing. One bad valve or a single broken line is a repair, full stop. But when the same yard keeps producing leaks in different places — especially on older black poly tubing — you’re paying for the same problem repeatedly, and rebuilding the buried lines in PVC costs less over a few years. We’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
Can you replace or reprogram my irrigation timer?
Yes. We replace failed controllers, fix zones that aren’t firing, and reprogram schedules for the season and what’s actually planted. If your landscape changed since the system went in, the schedule almost certainly doesn’t match the yard anymore.
How many zones does my yard need?
It’s driven by what’s planted, not by square footage. Turf, trees and desert-adapted plants each want different amounts of water on different intervals, so at minimum they belong on separate zones. Available water pressure also caps how much can run at once.
Do you install drip irrigation for trees and desert plants?
Yes, and it’s what we recommend for most planting here. Slow delivery at the root zone beats spray that evaporates before it soaks in. We size emitter output to the plant rather than running one output everywhere.
